Ostara/Eostre was an ancient Germanic Goddess. She was said to have mated with the Sun God on the Spring Equinox and nine months later, around the Winter Solstice, gave birth to a child. She transformed a bird into a hare and the hare responded by laying colored eggs for Ostara’s festival. The Spring Goddesses are many and Brigid is the Celtic Goddess, Sarasvati is the Hindu Goddess, and Freja the Norse Goddess.

Dandelion is the herb for the Spring and is linked with St. George. He overcame the dragon of winter and of the lower self in order to free the exalted dragon of our higher beings, our higher self.

Prayer to the Goddesses of Spring

O you of new beginnings,

who urge the roots to grow,

who brings us new light,

new dreams, new visions,

to implement.

O Ostara/Eostre, Brigid, Freya,

we ask for your blessings

on our gardens, our projects,

the dreams we keep to ourselves

in the darkness.

Give light to those dreams,

nurture them into the light of day,

like seeds coming forth

with the exuberance of Spring.
